Currently, media and information are being compiled to help to build an informational media component for potential athletes, families, potential sponsors, and the community at large.
Also, we need to recruit coaches and volunteers. While some of that infrastructure is in Rhode Island, it is not organized in the Southern part of the state – so I am trying to attain a list of people willing to help coach and build the sport.
The window for holding a summer camp for a week this summer is up in the air. Rugby RI has a field available in North Kingstown 3 days a week in until July 31st. However – they are later afternoon hours and not ideal for many families during the summer. Again, trying to figure out an ideal plan there.
Originally, I did plan on a 1-year ramp-up to get the support in place to run an actionable program. There is some pressure to start something sooner, but I strongly feel that if certain things are not in place first, it will limit the opportunities for success.
For the short term, if you know of a youth in 3rd through 12th grade that wants to play, please reach out for more information.
Expecations: If there is a chance for a formal summer rugby camp, I should have an update by mid-June. Over the next few months, I will create some promotional material to introduce youth rugby and heighten awareness. I am hoping to make it as entertaining and informative as possible!
