April 13, 2023 – Fort Adams State Park – Newport, RI The RI Quahogs faced an experienced XV group from South Africa which provided an excellent experience for the group. Ocean State Youth Rugby is excited to be a part of the USA Rugby universe and looks forward to supporting rugby in Southern Rhode Island! We have a lot of plans, and the most important part is to make this a fun, exciting experience for the youth and future of rugby.

A new high school-aged rugby team is formed and looking for both boys and girls aged 14-18 years of age to play rugby right now! *Ocean State Rugby is not organizing or running this team. Rhode Island Rugby is assisting the this group.

the sport of rugby is regularly listed at or near the top of the fastest-growing sports in America. with the rugby world cup coming to the united states in 2031 (men’s) & 2033 (women’s), there is little doubt the popularity of the sport will continue to grow!
Accessible, inexpensive, and fun – rugby is a great sport that can be a life-long activity.

UPDATE – June 2025 – Ocean State Rugby is in a dormant status. We are unable to field a team due to lack of available time. (Full disclosure: my kids are committed to other sports and I have not been able to draw in volunteers to help facilitate coaching from the beginning of the season and through the summer.)
Remember, youth rugby is still very much a “grass-roots” sport in our area and we’re constantly looking for volunteer coaches to help cover age groups and practice opportunities.
Keep a lookout for area youth rugby opportunities ….like the rugby camp in February!!!
February 2025 – 3 Day Rugby Camp ($60 for THREE days – 6 hour sessions!!!) at Wide World of Indoor Sports in North Kingstown.
Looking for volunteer coaches to get certified to coach – no experience necessary! Also looking for volunteers to coach/manage practices. (Do not need to be certified when doing non-tackle practices)
